CommUnity Mural Dedication and Ribbon-Cutting, Oct. 10
Free dedication event celebrates four years of community collaboration and the work of more than a dozen local artists
WHAT:
Join Logan Heights CDC, local artists and neighbors to celebrate the dedication of the CommUnity Mural Project. See the completed murals beneath the I-5 and SR-15 freeways along Imperial Avenue, enjoy live music and refreshments, and meet some of the people who brought the artwork to life.
Four years in the making, the project features the work of more than a dozen local artists and contributions from community members. Together, the murals celebrate the history, culture, music and stories of The Greater Logan Heights while transforming the spaces beneath the freeways into colorful neighborhood landmarks.
The project was led by Logan Heights CDC in partnership with Caltrans, SANDAG and the City of San Diego, with funding from California’s Clean California Initiative.

WHY:
Funded by a Clean California Initiative grant, the CommUnity Mural Project represents a historic investment in public art designed through extensive community engagement and collaboration to reflect the people, stories, and traditions of The Greater Logan Heights while strengthening community pride, preserving its history, and rebuilding neighborhood connections.
The project — led by Logan Heights CDC in partnership with Caltrans, SANDAG and the City of San Diego — reclaims and reimagines the public spaces beneath the Interstate 5 and State Route 15 overpasses along Imperial Avenue that once divided neighborhoods.
The I-5 community-painted mural highlights the past, present, and future of Greater Logan Heights through neighborhood history, cultural traditions, and community landmarks, while the SR-15 mural turns freeway pillars into a celebration of the community’s musical heritage through imagery inspired by music and artistic expression.
Created with community participation and guided by local artists, the murals represent a lasting expression of neighborhood pride and ownership. To learn more about the CommUnity Mural Project, visit communitymural.loganheightscdc.org.
