Orchids & Onions: A 50-Year Report Card on San Diego Architecture
Friends of San Diego Architecture will host celebration of the 50th anniversary of Orchids & Onions, San Diego's annual awards program. It honors the best in local architecture with Orchids, while other projects that come up short – they get Onions. Kevin deFreitas will share the podium with Mike Stepner, who joined other architects in founding the awards program in 1975. DeFreitas and Stepner will cover the history of O&O, the 50th anniversary gala, and the current state of design in the region. The program will take place at 10 a.m. October 17 at the San Diego History Center, Casa de Balboa, 1649 El Prado, Balboa Park. Visit https://friendsofsdarch.com/.

The San Diego History Center, located in the heart of Balboa Park, is the headquarters of the San Diego Historical Society. Here you will not only find a collection of intriguing exhibitions that chronicle San Diego’s diverse history, but also a Research Library. This is home to over 45 million pieces of paper and 2.5 million images that document the people, places and events of San Diego’s past. In addition to the exhibitions at the Museum of San Diego History, the museum also presents a number of public programs including lectures, workshops and educational programs.
