Wine & Lecture: From Colton Frog War to Coronado Fairways: How One Railroad Victory Unlocked Paradise

The Coronado Historical Association invites you to join us for this month's installment of the popular Wine & Lecture Series, featuring "The Frog War: The Railroad Battle That Opened Southern California." Enjoy an engaging evening and discover how Southern Pacific's attempt to isolate San Diego by blocking rival tracks at Colton Crossing sparked the dramatic 1883 Frog War. Learn how the Santa Fe and California Southern victory shattered the railroad monopoly, transformed transportation to the Southland, and paved the way for Coronado's rise as a premier resort destination. Through historic photographs and compelling storytelling, this illustrated presentation explores how one pivotal railroad crossing reshaped the region's future—from ferries and grand hotels to the opening of Coronado's celebrated golf course in 1896.
