Original works and reimagined American Songbook classics from Pulitzer Prize-winning muti-instrumentalist.
Colombian-born harp virtuoso Edmar Castañeda has redefined the harp’s role in jazz, earning a Latin GRAMMY® nomination for his album Family and contributing both performances and musical consulting to Disney’s "Encanto." Since arriving in the U.S. in 1994, he has become the instrument’s leading innovator, merging jazz with global traditions and collaborating with luminaries such as Wynton Marsalis, Béla Fleck, Hiromi, Marcus Miller, and Paquito D’Rivera. Hailed by NPR for his astonishing technique and by The New York Times for his modern jazz vision, Castañeda continues to expand the harp’s possibilities through acclaimed albums, major commissions, and international performances.
The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center
The Baker-Baum Concert Hall is an intimate performance space with superb acoustics ideally suited for chamber music and classical recitals. In addition, its design incorporates state-of-the-art technology and adjustable acoustics, making it a world class space for amplified concerts, film, dance, theatre, lectures, and more. A wooden grillage frames the elegant curvature to the seating area creating a shape reminiscent of a European opera house. Outside this framework, lighting washes the walls in color to create a sense of space beyond.
