Point Loma Playhouse proudly presents Glorious! The true story of Florence Jenkins, the worst singer in the world! Glorious! by Peter Quilter - In New York in the 1940s, the performer whom everyone wanted to see live was Florence Foster Jenkins, an enthusiastic soprano whose pitch was far from perfect. Known as "the first lady of the sliding scale", she warbled and screeched her way through the evening to an audience who mostly fell about with laughter. But this delusional and joyously happy woman paid little attention to her critics, comfortably surrounded by devoted friends who were almost as eccentric as she was. Glorious!, a sparkling comedy based on the true story of the astronomical success of the worst singer in the world opens the Point Loma Playhouses’ new season. The play spins from Florence's charity recitals and extravagant balls, through to her bizarre recording sessions and ultimate triumph at Carnegie Hall in a hilarious and heartwarming comedy. Cast: Pati Reynolds, Robert Nickel, Raymond Lynch, Bobbi Randall, Gabriela Sosa, Maxine Levarena and Dena Mattox. Directed by Pati Reynolds. Point Loma Playhouse
Point Loma Playhouse was founded in 2006 as Point Loma Actors Theatre in the beautiful historic building of the Point Loma Assembly. This 'Beginner Actor Workshop' was directed by David Sein while founding Education Director, Patty Hume showcased a variety of comedic short scenes and monologues. Over time the organization has developed a plethora of workshops, classes and full scale productions. In 2015, we received our 501(c)(3) non-profit status and changed our name to Point Loma Playhouse. Most performances occur in the historic 1911 Point Loma Assembly Building. Mission Statement The purpose of the Point Loma Playhouse is to present quality theatre to the public, provide educational opportunities to actors, directors, writers and designers to develop their creative skills and offer collaborative opportunities for community members to be involved in the production of theatre.
