This concert celebrates American music in honor of the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding. For generations, the United States has inspired composers from both within and beyond its borders, shaping works that reflect America’s landscapes, cultures, and evolving identity.
This program highlights that influence, beginning with Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World,” a work shaped by his impressions of America’s musical traditions. We continue with Edward MacDowell’s Suite No. 2, “Indian Suite,” one of the earliest major orchestral works by an American composer. The evening concludes with a world premiere of an original piece written by MiraCosta College Symphony Orchestra’s composer‑in‑residence, Christoph Rayburn—to commemorate this historic anniversary. We hope you’ll join us for this special celebration of American music.
