Attorneys who represent injured workers are reacting angrily to a report that shows new state regulations have cut workers' disability benefits in half. Attorneys and some lawmakers say the system needs to be fixed.
Workers compensation reform has helped lower insurance premiums for California employers. But a new report shows it's also taken a toll on injured workers' benefits.
David Schwarz is with the California Applicants Attorneys Association. He says part of the problem, is the state has adopted permanent disability guidelines from the American Medical Association.
Schwarz: It's possible to have multiple shoulder surgeries and still end up with a zero impairment rating. If you develop a condition called fibromyalgia, it's not recognized by the AMA. So those people would get zero.
Democratic lawmakers want to revisit some of the recent workers comp reform measures. The Schwarzenegger administration says that would be premature. Kenny Goldberg, KPBS News.
