The state's schools chief was in San Diego Tuesday to announce the latest passing rates for the High School Exit Exam. High school seniors must pass both the English and Math portion of the test by the end of the school year in order to get their diplomas in June. KPBS reporter Beth Ford Roth has details.
State Superintendent Jack O'Connell says high school diploma of future will mean more than the diploma of the past.
O'Connell: Quite frankly I believe we do a disservice to our students when we graduate them and they're not able to compute, and they're not able to read, and they're not able to write well, and to communicate.
The final administration of the test is in May, with results not coming back till late June. O'Connell has sponsored legislation to put additional administration. Beth Ford Roth, KPBS News.
