Last week, a state Superior Court judge said California CANNOT solve its prison overcrowding problem by sending inmates to prisons in other states -- even though there are nearly twice as many people in California's prisons as they were meant to hold. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger says he's considering early release of some prisoners to deal with prison overcrowding. The state has been given 90 days to spell out how it will solve the long-standing overcrowding problem. If the federal courts are not satisfied, they may order the release of criminals and the construction of new prisons.
