House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is on the defensive. Before returning to California for the Memorial Day holiday, she says Democrats have not lost the battle with the White House over Iraq. Jodi Breisler reports from Capitol Hill.
After months of trying to tie money for the Iraq War with a timetable, Congress passed President Bush's supplemental funding request. Republicans call this a victory. Pelosi says it was not a Democratic defeat.
Pelosi : Yesterday we were able to go on record, those of us who wanted to, against the war. Others have made their voices known in other legislation and they felt that was adequate and I respect that. I can only speak for my own vote.
Pelosi and many other anti-war Democrats voted against the funding bill, which expires in September. This includes San Diego area Representatives Bob Filner and Lois Capps. There will be another fight over military funding in July.
