San Diego County faces another legal challenge over its program for the uninsured. The Western Center on Law and Poverty says the rules governing the county's CMS program are too restrictive. KPBS reporter Kenny Goldberg has more.
Last May, a state appeals court ordered the county to adopt a more flexible income level for the poor to qualify for medical services.
Under the county’s new standards, people who earn less than $1,149 a month get free healthcare. Those who earn up to $1,400 a month face co-payments.
Attorney Katie Murphy is with the Western Center on Law and Poverty . She says co-payments make sense for people who can afford them.
Murphy : But these are too high, unaffordable, and they're gonna cause people to ration their care, because they can't come up with the 20, or 30 dollars required to see the doctor.
The county maintains its program complies with the court's decision. A Superior Court judge is expected to rule on the new legal challenge later this month.
