The San Diego Association of Governments says two highway projects are top priorities for the money SANDAG will receive from the federal economic stimulus package. KPBS reporter Katie Orr has details.
SANDAG compiled a list of projects totaling more than 7 billion dollars. The organization wanted to see those funded through the stimulus package. Executive Director Gary Gallegos says the amount SANDAG will receive is less than it was hoping for. But he says there are still some big projects that it will move on.
Gallegos: At the top of the list would be the next phase of state route 76 in North County, the next phase of 905 down south in the boarder. We’ve got some bridges on the costal rail line that need to be replaced that are ready to go.
Gallegos says SANDAG will also partner with Orange and Los Angeles Counties to apply for grants to lay down more track on the rail line running from Santa Barbara to San Diego.
