Some 1,200 homebound seniors will get a special holiday meal tomorrow, thanks to hundreds of local volunteers.
San Diego County's Meals on the Move program delivers hot food to homebound seniors year-round. But there's typically a gap on holidays.
On Thanksgiving morning, more than 300 volunteers will pick up and deliver a turkey dinner to the county's elderly clients.
Denise Nelesen is with the County's Department of Aging and Independent Services. She says clients are happy they don't have to fend for themselves.
"And the volunteers sort of like, many of them, you know, wouldn't necessarily have a contact with a stranger like this and do something nice on this day, so it makes 'em feel really good," Nelesen says.
Nelesen says sometimes entire families volunteer to deliver meals together. The meals are provided free to clients.
