San Diego is poised to re-pave 134-miles of city roads this year. That's nearly a seven-fold increase over last year.
San Diego borrowed $103 million to get the project underway.
Hasan Yousef works for the city's streets department. He says the streets targeted for re-surfacing will get curb-to-curb makeovers. He says another 147 miles of roadway will get a new cover called a slurry seal.
The city has more than 2,700 miles of roads. Yousef says the work has already begun.
"The first of the overlay projects we started at the end of March and before we actually start the actual overlay there's some prep work that takes place," said Yousef.
Yousef says the city's worst streets will get the attention first. He says a list of the projects is on their website.
San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders was in Clairemont to talk about the project. Work also got underway on that neighborhood's Mount Etna Drive.
