It's time to get your flu shot.
The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency is set to kick off its annual influenza vaccination campaign today in conjunction with area healthcare organizations.
Agency officials plan to release statistics on the disease, and the San Diego Black Nurses Association plans to give out free shots to 500 adults at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center on Skyline Drive.
The agency says 36,000 people nationwide die every year from the flu, and getting a shot in advance is the best prevention.
Other suggested precautions are washing hands thoroughly and often, or using hand sanitizers; staying away from sick people; avoiding touching the eyes, nose, and mouth; and regularly cleaning commonly touched surfaces.
