The Del Mar Fairgrounds was the scene of a sneak preview Wednesday of this summer's San Diego County Fair, which is slated to open June 2.
The theme this year, “Where the West is Fun:” that means cowboy hats, lassos, country music, rodeos and people in 18th-century costumes.
Grandstand performers will include Toby Keith, Patti LaBelle, Peter Cetera and Roberto Tapia.
This year's selection of odd foods include bacon-wrapped cactus and ice cream chicken sandwiches (which are surprisingly tasty, but not low-calorie).
There will be multicultural festivals each weekend, including Asian, Gospel, Mariachi, Whole Life, and Out at the Fair, which celebrates the LGBTQ community.
North County Transit is offering special tickets that cover the cost of a train ride and entrance to the fair for those who want to avoid the traffic.
Tim Fennell, CEO of the fairgrounds, said the San Diego County Fair is the biggest county fair in California and fifth biggest in the United States.
