The North County Film Club provides filmgoers an opportunity to see some of the Oscar nominated animated shorts before tonight's Academy Awards ceremony at 5pm on ABC.
The North County Film Club began in the fall of 2008 and has been presenting independent, foreign and limited release films to North County film lovers. The group first began meeting in private homes and then moved into the Oceanside Mission Branch Library. On March 7 they continue their film program at Ultrastar Mission MarketPlace Theater with five of the Oscar nominated short animated films followed by the Academy Awards Ceremony on the big screen.
"So far the returns have been excellent," says North County Film Club president Jim Hamilton, "Our first film, 'Outsourced,' received an enthusiastic reaction from the viewers. We expected 60 viewers for our first film and attracted 100 film buffs. We were placed in the smallest room at the theater for our first film and filled the house. Wisely, the Oceanside UltraStar is putting us in a larger room March 7. All we need to do now is keep our audience and allow word-of-mouth to increase our audience."
The North County Film Club and Ultrastar Mission MarketPlace Theater will show a different film two Sundays each month beginning at 4 pm. A Season Pass to all ten movies costs but $40 and includes a regular size popcorn at each film. Upcoming films include "The Visitor," "The Fall," and "The Lookout."
