The ongoing shortage of substitute teachers and other school personnel has prompted San Diego County school districts to come together this weekend.

There is a major education job fair happening Saturday with opportunities for hundreds of job applicants. The Careers in Education Job Fair is cosponsored by Point Loma Nazarene University and the San Diego County Office of Education. There are both teaching jobs and non-teaching jobs being offered.

Dr. Sheiveh Jones is one of the coordinators. She said, “We need to cast our net a little wider and really look at individuals who may not have traditionally gone into the teaching profession.”

There are 29 school districts and charter schools that will be hiring at the event. They are looking to hire substitute teachers, after-school program staff, bus drivers, campus supervisors, child nutrition assistants, food service professionals, health clerks, instructional aides and assistants, maintenance workers, noon duty supervisors, and nurses.

"Because there are critical shortages for some of these positions, local school districts are eager to bring the best and brightest into their organizations right now," continued Dr. Jones, who is also director of teacher effectiveness and preparation. "It's the perfect time to join an educational agency and use your skills to support students."

The job fair will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 4th at Liberty Station Conference Center, 2600 Laning Road in San Diego.

Job seekers can register for one of three time slots: 8 to 9:45 a.m., 10 to 11:45 a.m., and noon to 1:45 p.m.

Choose a time slot, bring a resume, and dress professionally. Some districts may interview on the spot while others will collect your resume in anticipation of an opening within the district.
