Recycling has been available during past Earth Fair events and recently the collection of organic materials for composting has been added.

But organizers said Earth Fair could be recycling more.

Laura Anthony with Zero Waste San Diego said everyone has heard of the three R's -- reduce, reuse, recycle.

But she said the group has added more R's including repair and refuse.

"Recycling is the last resort," said Anthony. "And we need to do all the other ones before we get to recycling. We should always reduce the things we buy and repair the things that we do have. Everything has a value and everything can be used again."

She said volunteers will teach fairgoers how zero waste can eliminate the need for landfills and concepts such as "waste."

Anthony said reducing waste at its source, packaging, or refusing to buy products that have packaging that can't be recycled, would make a significant difference in reducing waste.
