San Diego law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty were recognized Wednesday at the 30th annual Law Enforcement Officers' Memorial Ceremony at the County Administration Center downtown.

The San Diego County Administration Center downtown is home to a new glass memorial wall etched with the names of fallen officers.

The center is home to a new glass memorial wall etched with the names of fallen officers. The wall is normally illuminated with white lights, but it took on a blue hue Wednesday for the ceremony.

Retired San Diego County Sheriff’s Capt. Skip Murphy said the event recognizes both active officers and those killed in the line of duty.

“We not only honor those officers, but as well we honor the thousands of officers, deputies and agents that work throughout San Diego County and place their lives on the line each and every day,” Murphy said.

A new SANDAG report shows an 11 percent jump in deaths and assaults of police officers and sheriff’s deputies in the county since 2011. No officers were killed in the San Diego region in 2013.
