Many school districts in San Diego County are making plans to deliver swine flu vaccinations for local children.

At least 25 local school districts and the county health department are planning to provide vaccinations at school. Karen Waters-Montijo is chief of the immunization branch for San Diego County. She says the county has made an initial order of 37,000 doses of swine flu vaccine for the school-based immunizations. But she says the shipments will take some time to arrive and there won't be any vaccinations given at school until next month.

"We are not planning to schedule anything earlier than the second week of November," said Waters-Montijo, "because we want to be sure there's an adequate supply of vaccine."

San Diego's largest school district, San Diego Unified, is planning to offer vaccinations. Waters-Montijo says the shots will likely be administered by health care firms that contract with the county.
