People concerned about domestic violence in San Diego will hold a rally in Balboa Park on Saturday. They'll be calling for an end to family violence.
Countywide last year, there were more than 17,000 incidents of domestic violence reported to local law enforcement. County officials say there were also 28 family violence homicides.
Dawn Griffin is president of the San Diego Domestic Violence Council. She said if we want to reduce sexual and physical assaults, we need to have better policies.
"Where we stop blaming," Griffin said, "we get to know both the victim and the batterer, and provide the right kind of services based on their background, their culture, and where they want to go in the future."
Saturday's rally in Balboa Park will feature speakers, musical performances, and a candlelight vigil to remember victims of domestic violence.
Organizers expect up to 3,000 people will attend the event.
