Nearly 60,000 Californians have enrolled in Covered California, the state’s health care exchange, and 370,000 more have begun the application process.
San Diegans are enrolling at a faster rate than the rest of the state, making up nearly 10 percent of enrollees, said Covered California executive director Peter Lee, who was in San Diego on Friday to bolster registration.
“Which really bodes very well for the over 300,000 San Diegans who are eligible either for subsidies for Covered California or newly eligible for Medi-Cal," Lee said.
Lee said a range of counselors are coming on board in San Diego this month to help with the enrollment process, including La Maestra Community Health Center, Bayside Community Center and Asian Business Association.
"We have dozens and dozens of trained certified enrollment counselors that can help people enroll in the community here in San Diego, as well as licensed insurance agents," Lee said.
Applications are expected to surge leading up to Dec. 15, which is the deadline to get coverage starting Jan. 1.
