Bestselling science-fiction author Cory Doctorow will give a lecture on the role of libraries in the community. The event is being held to mark National Library Week and the Friends of The San Diego Library's 40th anniversary.

Bestselling science-fiction author Cory Doctorow says libraries are one of the last reminders of a world that values people for their humanity and not their money.

That's part of the message he'll be delivering at a lecture to mark National Library Week and the Friends of The San Diego Public Library's 40th anniversary.

Doctorow will be speaking about the role of libraries in the community. The lecture is Thursday at 7 p.m. at the San Diego Central Library.
