Bestselling science-fiction author Cory Doctorow says libraries are one of the last reminders of a world that values people for their humanity and not their money.
That's part of the message he'll be delivering at a lecture to mark National Library Week and the Friends of The San Diego Public Library's 40th anniversary.
Doctorow will be speaking about the role of libraries in the community. The lecture is Thursday at 7 p.m. at the San Diego Central Library.
Doctorow, who is also a blogger, journalist and technology activist, joins Midday Edition ahead of the talk to discuss the role libraries have played in his life.
