If gays and lesbians are allowed to serve openly in the military, it could become an issue for some military chaplains. Lee S. Gliddon Jr. of the Desert Conservative blog reports today that former Navy Chaplain Gordon James Klingenschmitt, an evangelical Protestant who once accused his superiors of pressuring chaplains to offer generic, nonsectarian prayers, just read the full Pentagon report on repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
Gliddon writes that Klingenschmitt had this to say about the survey:
Meantime, dozens of other retired military chaplains say that if the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy prohibiting gays from serving in the military is ultimately thrown out, serving both God and the military will become impossible for those chaplains like Klingenschmitt and others whose faiths consider homosexuality a sin.
