The fate of Noor Uthman Mohammed, the Guantanamo Bay prisoner from Sudan who pleaded guilty earlier this week to terrorism charges, is now in the hands of a military jury. The Miami Herald reports that the nine-member military jury is deliberating the length of Noor's sentence. The plea deal dictates that jurors are limited to sentencing Noor to between 10 and 14 years. Home Post reported earlier this week that as part of his plea, Noor admitted to helping train al-Qaeda recruits in Afghanistan.
There is some controversy surrounding Noor's imprisonment in Afghanistan after his arrest. According to the Herald:
Noor's defense attorney asked the jury to consider these alleged abuses when deciding the length of his sentence. Whatever his sentence may be, there is the possibility of Noor being released early if he testifies against other alleged terrorists.
