I must have been 8 or 9 years old, and my family was staying at Edwards Air Force Base while my father underwent training. One of the officers on base guided my mother, sisters and me to an area on the base where we could view the space shuttle.
The shuttle (I forget which one!) had landed at Edwards Air Force Base a few days earlier, and the airmen there were preparing to get the shuttle back to Florida on the back of a 747 airplane. Later my mom took us to the NASA gift shop on base, where she bought us astronaut ice cream, and a tiny toy replica of the shuttle mounted on the back of a 747. How I wish I'd kept that toy!
I'm sure many of you also have memories of shuttle launches, and perhaps the loved ones you watched the launches with. And I'm guessing we all can remember where we were when we heard about the Challenger and Columbia tragedies. I'd love for you to share those memories here at Home Post!
To inspire you, here's a video created by NASA (and posted on YouTube by Cincinattidotcom) of all the shuttle launches over the past 30 years, called "134 Launches in 134 Seconds." Enjoy: http://youtu.be/dH8m_0Ie5ds
