A Marine based at Twentynine Palms was killed in Afghanistan on August 1st, according to the Department of Defense. Lance Cpl. Curtis J. Duarte, 22, grew up in the Southern California city of Covina.
Duarte was assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force at Twentynine Palms.
According to his Facebook page, Duarte attended San Diego State University after graduating from Covina High School in 2008.
