Governor Schwarzenegger leaves Thursday for a six-day trade mission to Asia. He’s decided to go despite the fact that California still has no budget in place. Schwarzenegger will visit China, Japan and South Korea to promote investment in California and the state’s products.
The Governor defended his decision to continue as planned, regardless of the budget impasse.
“I will be going on my trip to Asia because I think promotion of California products is very important to me and it’s very important for the economy, to stimulate the economy," Schwarzenegger said. "You can’t have a better way of stimulating the economy than selling your goods worldwide.”
The Governor said he’ll be available to meet with legislative leaders on the budget via teleconference while he’s overseas. A Schwarzenegger spokesman said the Governor could come home early if needed.
California Business leaders will also take part in the trade mission. The trip is paid for largely by a private foundation.
