  • This class meets weekly, 3-4 times each month Ages 13-18 years welcome! Ready to take your sewing to the next level?! This class is designed for teens who want to learn machine sewing skills to explore making their own clothes. Instructor & Sewist Joan Mathison will guide students as they gain confidence using a sewing machine; practice essential techniques like seam finishes, hems, and zippers; and explore how to read and follow a garment pattern. Along the way, teens will work on beginner-friendly garment projects that build real sewing skills and result in wearable pieces. Whether you’re dreaming of making your own wardrobe, customizing thrift finds, or simply learning a valuable skill, this class will give your teen the tools and knowledge to get started. No prior sewing experience is required. All materials included and sewing machines are provided. Attend one workshop or the full series to: - Learn professional native garden techniques - Gain practical skills for your own garden - Help complete a lasting outdoor classroom and wildlife habitat Homeowners, students, landscape professionals, and native plant enthusiasts are all welcome. Children are free and welcome to Workshop III. The other workshops are not appropriate for chidlren. Food and beverages are included. Workshop I — Hardscape Installation Saturday, August 29 | 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m. With Leo Hernandez Build a dry creek bed, shape soil elevations, and learn how to position boulders to create natural-looking, functional landscape features. Workshop II — Native Garden Irrigation Saturday, September 19 | 9 a.m.–2 p.m. With Leo Hernandez and Mike Madewell of Hunter Industries Learn about efficient irrigation options and technical considerations for native landscapes, followed by a hands-on irrigation installation. Workshop III — Planting & Garden Finishing Saturday, November 7 | 8:30 a.m.–3 p.m. Learn proper native plant installation, then help plant and finish the remaining garden sections with mulching and final touches. All of the landscape designers involved in planning these sections will be onsite, giving participants a unique opportunity to work alongside them and learn about their different design approaches.   • This class meets weekly on Tuesdays for this 2-month series. Series 1: Sept 15, 22, 29, Oct 6, 14, 20, 27 Series 2: Nov 3, 10, 17, Dec 1, 8, 15 Ages 13-18 years welcome! Lead instructor, Steffi Dotson, teaches this class that covers the properties of wood, machine safety and woodworking basics. Students will learn a mix of woodworking techniques, including hand tools and safe practice of machine operations. Depending on the specific project, joinery techniques, proper sanding and finishing are part of the curriculum. Each attendee will make their own project. Because safety is top priority, and each student works at their own speed, students are encouraged to focus on skill building, with future 2-month series incorporating more skills and different projects. All materials are included. You’ll learn professional florist approaches to mechanics, structure, flower care, and design decision-making, along with practical considerations like handling, transport, and longevity. This series is designed to support both arranging hobbyists and working florists looking to expand their technical skills and confidence. Workshops can be taken as stand-alone classes, or as part of a year-long progression through foundational and advanced floral forms. This Month’s Focus: Wedding Bouquets In this workshop, we’ll focus on designing a hand-held wedding bouquet, one of the most iconic and technically nuanced floral forms. Instruction will cover the specific mechanics, proportions, and techniques used for this style, along with guidance on flower selection and construction suited to its purpose and use. Together, a Native Poppy florist and a guest artist will guide you from floral design to finished artwork in one immersive experience. This workshop begins with a guided Flower Arranging 101 experience, where you’ll design a petite floral arrangement using seasonal blooms with hands-on support from Native Poppy’s professional florists. Once your arrangement is complete, you’ll transition into a guided watercolor painting session led by Michaela Jean Art, a flower gardener and painter, learning how to translate your arrangement into a finished floral artwork using expressive watercolor techniques. No prior painting or floral design experience required!
