  • From Space 4 Art: We are thrilled to announce that San Diego's Poet Laureate, Jason Magabo Perez, will join us as both a guest studio artist and guest performer at our next Open Studios on Saturday, June 10 from 4:00-8:00 PM! Perez is passionate about using his post as Poet Laureate to demystify poetry and help people access the tools to express themselves through it. Thus, he will host a pop-up Poetry Lab where guests may mingle with him, watch (or join) him composing in action, and explore his other works on display. His time with us will culminate in a performance, perhaps even including a collaborative piece created during our event! As usual, most of our other visual arts studios will be open, and other S4A musicians will also perform. Please visit our website closer to June 10 for an updated schedule of activities and performances, or subscribe to our e-news. Related links: Space 4 Art on Instagram | Facebook
  • A culmination of its Youth Theater Camp, Oceanside Theatre Company (OTC) presents "Bye Bye Birdie" (Young Performer Edition) at the historic Brooks Theater in downtown Oceanside from August 5-7, 2022. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and available online or by calling the box office at 760-433-8900. A delightful musical featuring 32 local youth performers from across North County, "Bye Bye Birdie" is the story of a small town rocked by the presence of pop star and heart throb Conrad Birdie. When the military drafts Birdie into the war, his fans are devastated - none more so than struggling songwriter Albert Peterson, whose song Birdie was just about to record. Albert’s longtime girlfriend, Rosie, pushes Albert to write a new tune that Birdie can perform on television to a lucky fan selected in a contest. The scheme works, with young Ohio teenager Kim MacAfee declared the winner, but trouble ensues as no one anticipated the reaction of Kim’s boyfriend, Hugo.
