  • The Kamil family, Department of Visual Arts, and School of Arts and Humanities at UC San Diego invite you to the 16th Annual Adam D. Kamil Media Awards Ceremony. Please join us for an evening of film and creativity to honor the memory of Adam Douglas Kamil and showcase the talent of undergraduate UC San Diego students. The Adam D. Kamil Media Awards were developed to help UC San Diego undergraduates polish their skills in film production and to help them realize their creative potential in this field. Adam was a UC San Diego, Visual Arts Media major with a passion for the power of media to connect people. To honor the memory of their son, the Kamil family established the Adam D. Kamil Media Awards. The awards consist of a grand prize of $4,000 and two finalist prizes of $2,000 each. All submissions will be viewable in the Kamil Gallery May 14-20, and in the Kamil Gallery Online. Winners will be announced at the ceremony on May 15, and the prize winning projects will be screened. “We hope that through this award, Adam’s creative spirit will inspire others to develop their talents and to grow as sympathetic and sensitive individuals,” stated Elaine Kamil.   • To combat ongoing summer hunger, the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank partners with the San Diego Public Library to help bridge the meal gap for students and families who rely on free meals during the school year and ensure no one goes hungry. Through the San Diego Food Bank’s summer meals program and its continued collaboration with local partners, families can find nourishment and support in their own neighborhoods. Ten meal sites across the region are offering free food distributions to any San Diego youth aged 0 to 18, beginning June 3 through Aug. 27. There are no income requirements, ZIP-code restrictions, or identification needed, and meals will be offered to residents even if they are not enrolled in summer programming. Meals include fresh produce, proteins, and shelf-stable items such as rice, pasta, canned goods, granola bars, milk, juice, and peanut butter. They are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
