"Cambio Concreto: New Broken Promises" is a photographic exhibition exploring the themes of concrete change in the metropolitan city of Tijuana Baja California. As the city reopens post-Covid-19 there has been an explosion of new development, growth, and investment yet the realities of life in poverty for a large population of the city's residents remain concrete. Saulo will participate in a Q&A session to comment on the collection and its purpose for any guests that are interested in exploring a deeper understanding of the socio-political issues that the exhibition aims to address.   • Oolong Gallery welcomes two artists to town with side-by-side solo exhibitions. Austrian abstract painter Markus Bacher will display large scale works that are vaguely figurative, vaguely landscape rendered in textured, muted tones periodically splashed with saturated yellows and other vivid hues. Claire Chambless, a recent Cal Arts MFA grad, will display a collection of striking sculptures.   • Puppet Lab: Breathing Life into Story is an invitation to discover the magic of ensemble puppetry. No experience necessary-- just a willingness to have serious fun. First, learn more about the amazing world of puppetry (it's not just socks and Muppets!) and explore the basic principles of breath, focus, and movement. Then, work together in a small group to breathe life into your own Bunraku-style puppet character and devise original short stories to share. Warning: This workshop may culminate in a puppet/puppeteer dance-off. This workshop will take place in Hattox Hall, part of the Karen and Donald Cohn Education Center if The Old Globe in beautiful Balboa Park.
