Summer Movies in the Park is the largest free and family-friendly outdoor movie series in San Diego County, with dozens of hosting sites and over a hundred screenings. It launched in 2007 as a ‘take back our parks’ initiative – in sync with the County’s Live Well vision to sustain safe, healthy and thriving communities. Starting the morning after Halloween, kids can bring in candy to any of The Super Dentist’s six offices and exchange it for cash through November 5. Through this program, kids receive $1 for each pound of candy they bring in. (Cash paid November 1-5 only.) The Super Dentists will donate thousands of pounds of candy they collected to active-duty service members to enjoy. Schools can also participate by hosting a fundraiser and using candy collection bins from November 1-5. Participating schools will receive $1 per pound of candy donated by its students. The San Diego Civic Youth Orchestra proudly presents…”Spring Showcase Concert” featuring string, wind and full orchestra ensembles, each of which showcases talented young musicians who perform a variety of enjoyable music literature, including popular and classical pieces, under the direction of its professional conductors. About CYO Since 1956, we have enriched the lives of aspiring musicians, from those who are just beginning their musical experience to the most advanced, through a stair-step program designed to inspire and cultivate excellence through music and an appreciation for the arts. Our program offers small and large ensemble training for musicians aged 5 to 22, led by professional staff, master classes, workshops, intensive orchestral retreats, and tours. Our students have gone on to pursue successful careers as solo performers, symphony orchestra members, composers, music educators, and members of the music entertainment industry. Tuition covers only a portion of the total cost of our overall program. Generous parent and community support for the Civic Youth Orchestra, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, help us continue our goal of providing our students the best possible music education. Join us for our next “History Talks!” Lecture on Wednesday, March 15 at 7 p.m. Manager Aditi Worcester and Archivist Kiera Sullivan from the San Diego County Archives team will talk about the archival records that can be found in the County’s new state-of-the-art Archives facility in Santee. The County Archives includes an estimated 65,000 recorded maps, 250 cubic ft. of historic birth, death and marriage records, 600 cubic ft. of official records, and around 40,000 rolls of microfilm. History Talks! is a monthly lecture series presented by the Gaslamp Museum at the Davis-Horton House. Each month a local historian or specialist will delve into topics related to San Diego and the Davis-Horton House to bring a unique glimpse into the history of our city. Come hear history come alive! Lectures are free for GQHF Members, $5 for the public. Limited seating. Zoom simulcast will also be available!
