  • Congress has eliminated federal funding for public media. It is heartbreaking that after decades of outstanding public service by more than 1,000 public media stations in all corners of the United States, the federal investment in American communities has disappeared.

    Federal funding represented $4.3 million of KPBS’ annual budget. We are fortunate to be in a strong financial position that will allow us to keep serving San Diego, but the long-term loss of funding will negatively impact us and influence the plans we have for the future.

    As your local public media station, KPBS is an essential, front-line, public service accountable to you. Our goal is to empower San Diegans to make informed decisions to build, celebrate and grow as individuals, families and communities. We do this by providing trusted, balanced and insightful news, and educational and entertaining stories and events that reflect the voices and aspirations unique to our region. To do this, we need the support of our community more than ever. We will make it through this challenge because of you.

  •  Promises2Kids, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a brighter future for foster children in San Diego, is holding an exclusive evening of dinner and music to benefit current and former foster children. The 16th Annual Dream On Concert Gala is presented by Kevin and Raegan Prior and will be hosted by Joan Waitt at her La Jolla estate home on Monday, September 15, 2025. This elegant outdoor affair will begin with a sunset cocktail reception, followed by a gourmet seated dinner prepared by Executive Chef Jeffrey Strauss and Pamplemousse Grille, silent and live auctions, and a private concert. The Dream On Concert Gala has become one of San Diego’s most anticipated philanthropic events - selling out each year and raising vital funds to support foster children of all ages, from birth through adulthood.   • Wicked Tinkers have been playing Tribal Celtic Music (a genre they coined and created) since 1995. The Wicked Tinkers aim to create a sound that is both “ancient and hauntingly familiar” with use of bagpipes, tribal drums, didgeridoos, and a Bronze-Age Irish horn and their Scottish Carnyx (another ancient instrument) paired with a modern, rock-and-roll energy; their music will transport you back in time and get an audience off their feet with a raw, primal, and exciting sound.
