Parks After Dark returns for the summer, transforming four San Diego parks into the biggest and best FREE parties every weekend. Bring your family and friends! Larry Bellorín & Joe Troop were destined to make music together. Larry hails from Monagas, Venezuela and is a legend of Llanera music. Joe is from North Carolina and is a GRAMMY-nominated bluegrass and old-time musician. Larry was forced into exile and is an asylum seeker in North Carolina. Joe, after a decade in South America, got stranded back in his stomping grounds in the pandemic. Larry works construction to make ends meet. Joe’s acclaimed “latingrass” band Che Apalache was forced into hiatus, and he shifted into action working with asylum seeking migrants. Currently based in the Triangle of North Carolina, both men are versatile multi-instrumentalists and singer-songwriters on a mission to show that music has no borders. As a duo they perform a fusion of Venezuelan and Appalachian folk music on harp, banjo, cuatro, fiddle, and whatever else they decide to throw in the van. The program they offer features a distinct blend of their musical inheritances and traditions, as well as storytelling about the ways that music and social movements coalesce. The Hemlock Society of San Diego presents a showing of the recently released documentary, "Last Flight Home," followed by a discussion led by Faye Girsh, co-founder of the Hemlock Society of San Diego. Filmmaker Ondi Timoner documented the last days of her father, Eli, a highly accomplished man who became paralyzed and bedridden. Eli decided to medically terminate his life under California's End-of-life Option Act. During the 15-day waiting period, the film chronicles Eli's goodbyes to those closest to him as he helps them prepare for his departure. While his loved ones look back on Eli's successes and devastating blows, they struggle to reconcile his choice.

On August 12th from 5 - 8 p.m., SIP San Diego, a collective of urban wineries, meaderies and cideries, will be hosting their 5th annual SIP the City festival at Escondido City Hall. For $79 per person, attendees will have the opportunity to sample unlimited sips from all 14 members of the SIP San Diego non-profit in one place, as well as enjoy light bites from the newly opened California Poppy and live music in the dome venue at Escondido City Hall (201 N. Broadway, Escondido CA 92025). The Watershed Explorers Summer program is an exciting and educational program offered by the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy and San Dieguito River Park. Students ages 10–14 explore the San Dieguito River watershed through hands-on activities and field trips. Participants will learn about conservation, the importance of preserving natural habitats, and the impact of human activity on our environment. Includes field trips and opportunities to participate in conservation projects. Space limited to 25 participants. Monday through Friday, June 26 through June 30, 2023.
