Well known for her movement-based performances under the name boychild, Basco’s photography and drawing accompany the performance practice. Viewed as a whole, Basco’s work attempts to enfold language, becoming, and representation together in spaces where they are presumed to exist as discrete entities. She is co-founder of the collaborative entity Moved by the Motion with Wu Tsang, and collaboration remains a vital aspect of her work. • From the gallery: Distinction is pleased to announce our upcoming exhibition by fan favorite Denise Bledsoe with her solo show "Disorder". The opening reception with the artist, live music by Eric Brinker, open studios, and drinks for sale by Last Spot by Hidden Hive will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12 from 6-10 p.m. In the artist's words: "I've been involved in art with one media or another from an early age. Although I spent many hours sketching, drawing with pen and ink, and painting with acrylics and oils, my first love has always been sculpting and mixed media. I currently use both ceramic and oil based clays. It is the three-dimensional and textural qualities achievable through sculpture that satisfies me creatively. I feel that being able to experience a piece by holding it in one's hand is most fulfilling. In the case of my figurative pieces, it becomes an interaction...with 'eye contact.'" "No heavy message or serious statement is intended in most of my figures. They are as simple as their little faces depict. My hope is that they will spark an emotion in the viewer...one of happiness, an understanding, a reminder of someone they know or even just a smile. Any kind of reaction, good or otherwise is my goal." "My work can be found in galleries both internationally and across the US and has been shown in art publications and was the cover feature for the arts and entertainment magazine Pasatiempo. It is also in the private collections of several notable celebrities." The exhibition will run from Nov. 12 - Dec. 3, 2022.
