  • Classical Academy High School Presents "Guys and Dolls! The Broadway Musical" at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido from March 30 - April 2, 2023. Set in Damon Runyon's mythical New York City, "Guys and Dolls" is an oddball romantic comedy. Gambler, Nathan Detroit, tries to find the cash to set up the biggest craps game in town while the authorities breathe down his neck; meanwhile, his girlfriend and nightclub performer, Adelaide, laments that they've been engaged for 14 years. • From the artist: “Sky To A Machine” is the original text I typed into the prompt of a visual AI tool just to see how it would render back images to me. The initial results were exciting and so I spent another hour refining the prompt with additional modifiers until I reached a composition I wanted to paint. Is AI a valid tool for use in exploring artistic expression as I just described or has it somehow corrupted my creativity? The AI debate regarding the art-making process has been very loud with artists posting "NO AI" across social media and lobbying platforms and galleries to remove AI-generated "works". One of the biggest concerns is that the use of AI in art may lead to a dehumanization of the creative process and the concept of “artist”. As an oil & acrylic painter, I do not feel that AI is a substitute for my human creativity. Instead, I find it to be a powerful tool that can be used to augment and enhance my creativity. By leveraging the power of machine learning algorithms to generate new source material, I have been able to create works of art in a more efficient manner than my previous tools of internet image searching and Photoshop editing. My painting process itself is not changed and during the evolution of transforming the source material into a painting my own interpretation ultimately becomes the final work produced. In this show, you will find experimental compositions from keywords such as "sky to a machine", "robot riot protests", "visual kei punk portraits", tyrannosaurus rex visual shock", and "walls Mexico border". All in the quest to tell stories about our modern condition as we navigate the digital age. • Confident Lines In A Strange Sky is an inaugural classical music concert featuring four world-class composers and 13 renowned musicians performing nine compositions that spotlight historically overshadowed instruments. Instruments find a new confidence with the bassoon on electric guitar pedals, the English horn in a forceful new role and the viola usurping the place of dominance typically occupied by the violin. The program features the concert debut of three film scores, the first performance in over 20 years of Ribbons of Thought, and the combination of respected classical music tropes that highlight solos by instruments that typically act in a more supporting role. A reception and art exhibition featuring mixed media assemblage sculptures by Andrea Overturf will begin at 6 p.m. with the concert to follow at 7 p.m. Note: this event will also be livestreamed. • Ben Harper is a 3-Time Grammy Winner. He will preform solo, up close and personal. We are honored to have him headline our Concert of Hope. Whitney Shay will open the concert. She has won 5 San Diego Music Awards including Artist of the Year. This will be an amazing evening of music and help homeless youth get off the streets in San Diego. Be an ANGEL for homeless youth and please join us. Doors of Change is a 501-C-3 Organization that has helped over 2600 homeless youth get off the streets and into safe housing since 2001. Many of these youth become self-sufficient as a result. Our Homeless Youth Advocacy program develops trust very quickly with youth. Once trust is established, homeless youth ask for help. We help the most vulnerable youth, the transitional age youth (TAY) ages 17 to 25. Most are homeless because they come from such dysfunctional families, it is safer to live on the streets or if they are LGBTQ+ and come out, their parents kick them out of their home. Since COVID-19, we have broken records for the past 3 years in placing youth in safe housing. In 2022 we shattered the record by 188 youth, placing 349 youth in safe housing in San Diego. 100% of your tickets sales will go to help homeless youth because our amazing corporate Angels have underwritten all the costs of the concert. Any donation or ticket sale with be Matched dollar per dollar and doubled by the J.D. Bud and Vonda Webb Foundation. You will hear from ex homeless youth Justine’s amazing “Rocky Story” of living on the streets from 12 to 15 years old and graduating from LAW SCHOOL in March 2023.
