The 101st annual Coronado Flower Show is set to take place, April 15-16, 2023. Organized by the Coronado Floral Association (CFA), this is the largest tented flower show in the U.S. and Coronado’s longest running tradition, which includes an array of events leading up to and throughout the two-day festival. This year’s event theme is Hollywood in Bloom. The main event, The Coronado Flower Show, is divided into five divisions – Horticulture, Design, Special Exhibits, Youth and Botanical Arts. The show has been a spring tradition since 1922 and is one of the largest tented flower show in the U.S. Located at Spreckels Park, this two-day event includes landscape displays, a variety of floral competitions, educational lectures and demonstrations, live bandstand entertainment, food, a beer & wine garden with locally crafted beers, and shopping. Explored paradoxically, literally, ironically, and playfully, Good Natured artists make direct interventions; imaginative and unruly, others certain and precise. Manifested in various approaches and materials including painting, sculpture, textile, mixed media, and digital works, the exhibition provides a multisensory and immersive experience that challenges us to see nature and ourselves as sources of regeneration. The San Diego World Affairs Council invites you to a discussion about the politics, security, and culture of Yemen featuring distinguished speaker, Joël Fort, who lived in Yemen from 2005-2010. During his time in Yemen, Joël was tasked with implementing the largest ever industrial project in the country – to build from scratch a plant that would liquefy natural gas piped from Yemeni fields located in the center of the country and exporting it from an export terminal at the southern coast. This presentation will share some high-level data about Yemen, its vast geography and historical background and also personal insights into Ali Abdalah Saleh, the Yemeni president during his tenure. Joël will also talk about safety and security from his day-to-day experiences, the extraordinary beauty of the Yemeni landscapes and architecture, tribal customs around water scarcity, religion, cooking, music, the myths of the Queen of Sheba, Moka coffee and the pervasive practice of chewing “qat.”
