ONE-STOP SHOP Drug traffickers advertise on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, Twitter and YouTube. These advertisements are in disappearing, 24-hour stories and in posts, which are promptly posted and removed. Posts and stories are often accompanied by known code words and emojis that are used to market and sell illicit and deadly drugs on social media. These code words and emojis are designed to evade detection by law enforcement and by the preset algorithms used by social media platforms. Students of the Waldorf School of San Diego High School will mark Cesar Chavez Day with the inaugural “Head, Hands, Heart & Land” limited-run art show. The show, running March 31 – April 7, features jury-selected original works by Waldorf students and will celebrate and open on Cesar Chavez Day at the Logan Heights gallery, CM Curatorial, located adjacent to San Diego’s Cesar Chavez Park. Opening night will be March 31 at 6 p.m. The Waldorf School of San Diego, a K-12 independent school with two campuses located in the City Heights, ranks as one of the best high schools for the arts in California. “Student works are inspired by activism, and ideas such as caring for the land and waterways, standing up for rights and freedoms and being good stewards of social change,” says Rachel Davis, Waldorf School Administrator. “It is a moving display of how the next generation explores themes around social justice, food justice, climate change and conservation.” The Waldorf School of San Diego on Facebook / Instagram

The women's stories underscore the findings of a recent poll showing significantly more female officeholders in San Diego County face threats than their male counterparts.

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of their self-titled debut album, Violent Femmes will be playing the album in its entirety with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra. Once hailed as the “soundtrack to male puberty,” Violent Femmes’ first record amplified teenage angst and alienation in the 1980s with such songs as “Kiss Off,” “Add It Up” and “Gone Daddy Gone,” written by Lead Vocalist and Guitarist Gordon Gano before he’d even gotten his driver’s license. The album, which was mostly autobiographical, would later prove to embody some of the most powerful anthems of a disenchanted youth that the world has ever known. And while it took 10 years to go Platinum and hit the Billboard Top 200, Violent Femmes has now sold three million copies worldwide and is still in rotation on today’s top rock stations, substantiating it as more than a simple battle cry for a misunderstood youth.
