Hosted by the Festival’s Artistic Director & Co-Director of Programming, Carly Starr Brullo-Niles, the event will take place on Saturday, February 25 at 7 p.m. The discussion will explore Manning’s accomplished career in TV & Film with attendees encouraged to participate through an opportunity to ask their own questions. Taryn Manning began her industry career with her first major role in 2001 as “Maddy” in "Crazy/Beautiful" (2001) & followed that up with "8 Mile" (2002) and her breakthrough role as “Nola” in "Hustle & Flow" (2005). She has also worked on the CBS series "Hawaii Five-0" (2010), the FX series "Sons of Anarchy" (2008) and as a series regular on "Orange Is the New Black" (2013). Her feature credits include "Love Ranch" (2010), "Cold Mountain" (2003), "A Lot Like Love" (2005), "White Oleander" (2002), and "Crossroads" (2002). In addition to acting, Manning is also a fashion designer, singer-songwriter, and the vocalist for electronic duo Boomkat. The final performance of San Diego Unified School District’s (SDUSD) middle school honor band and orchestra will occur on Saturday, February 4 at Point Loma Nazarene University from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. It features the finest middle school Honor Band students. These are auditioned groups, including the best players selected to rehearse and perform under the direction of two special guest conductors for an enriching musical experience. Students actively engaged in and activity funded, at least in part, by The VAPA Foundation, which strives to enhance the quality of and access to arts education in the SDUSD. Spreckels Organ Society is hosting a special Sunday afternoon concert, celebrating The Beatles, called “All You Need is LOVE,” on Sunday, Jan. 29 from 2 to 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The concert will showcase San Diego’s Spreckels Pipe Organ – the largest open air musical instrument in the world – with San Diego Civic Organist Raul Prieto Ramirez performing. He will be joined by San Diego’s awarded singer Lauren Leigh-Martin, Richard “Tbone” Larson on drums, and the Choir of St. James-by-the-Sea, directed by Alex Benestelli. Featured songs include favorites such as: “Penny Lane,” “Let it Be,” “All You Need is Love,” “Helter Skelter,” “Lady Madonna,” and more!

Jazz saxophonist Charles Lloyd performs with his Ocean Trio, filled out by guitarist Anthony Wilson and pianist Gerald Clayton. Bassist Larry Grenadier will be joins as a special guest. Lloyd is widely revered as one of the greatest living jazz artists, having played the world’s leading festivals and stages throughout a remarkable seven-decade career. The concert will not be held at the Athenaeum, but will take place at the Irwin M. Jacobs Qualcomm Auditorium in Sorrento Mesa. Please join Linda as she presents an overview of houseplants and their care. A Master Gardener since 2010, Linda’s love of teaching has allowed her to share information with many others. Linda has been a volunteer and Docent at San Diego Botanic Garden since 2008 and has held many roles in the garden since. San Diego Botanic Garden operates according to current County and State guidelines.
