St. Paul’s PACE, a program that cares for San Diego’s most frail and low-income seniors, is hosting their annual St. Paul’s Essential Needs Drive (SPEND), kicking off on Friday, November 18 – collecting items through December 16. Each year, the drive is meant to encourage San Diegans to donate essential items or small gifts. St. Paul’s PACE cares for seniors; through this drive, San Diegans are called to help too! The program has close to 1,300 seniors and the goal is to provide essential needs and fall/winter items this holiday season to all participants. All items must be new and are asked to be unwrapped. Manzanita Concert Series is pleased to welcome back lutenist Eric Dickerson to present his concert program, The Lute in the 18th Century. SDSU Master of Music Eric Dickerson will perform virtuosic works by Sylvius Leopold Weiss and Johann Anton Logy on his 13 course Baroque lute. Free-will donations support the artist. The Love is in the Air Valentine’s tours at Wild Wonders will provide you and your special someone with a fun, entertaining, and very memorable glimpse into what love looks like in the wild. In this one hour tour, one of our keeper / educators will act as your private guide, and share the tactics and secrets animals use to find and attract Mr. or Ms. Right. You might want to take notes! These special tours are offered only on Saturday, February 11, and Sunday, February 12. Tours are offered at 10 a.m., Noon, and 2 p.m. There are a limited number of tours available, so sign up early to avoid disappointment. The price for the tour is $285 for up to 4 adults. On February 18, 2023, the San Diego World Affairs Council (SDWAC) will be honored to feature visiting representatives of Americans for Ukraine, Krzysztof Szczęsny, Co-Founder & President, and Emily Schroen, Chief Development Officer. Americans for Ukraine is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization supporting the Modlińska Humanitarian Aid Center in Warsaw, Poland. Szczesny and Schroen will provide insight on their relief-refugee-internally displaced persons (IDPs) initiatives on the ground in Ukraine and Poland. Szczesny, a Polish national is the co-founder of Americans for Ukraine and leads their Ukraine-Polish refugee response on the border and, more recently, in Ukraine. Shroen, a San Diego native, is currently based out of Ukraine to set up the first "hotspot", consisting of a secure venue with a generator, computers, and a facility for teachers to maintain teaching delivery to children inside Ukraine. The San Diego World Affairs Council is excited to welcome both speakers upon their brief visit to the U.S. mid-February, and provide a platform for them to engage and inform our community by sharing details on the situation on the ground as it is today with an authentic narrative and visuals.
