This free educator training organized by Outside the Lens is part of a series of fall workshops for teachers with a focus on Arts Integration in K-12 schools. The September 25 session connects Social Science and Media Arts and covers the essential question: How can photography be used to capture and communicate the essence of daily life in a way that helps future generations understand our present? Participants will utilize photography to investigate historical documentation and to connect with their present-day experiences. The exhibit features juxtapositions of texture and design, symbolic shapes, and three-dimensional objects. All artwork is available to take home by making a suggested donation to the Monarch School Project, with proceeds going directly to this community of students impacted by homelessness. “San Diego Selects” Recognition Program Returns Returning to the art fair post pandemic, the San Diego Selects program welcomes three local arts administrators and advocates to walk the fair on its first evening and choose five pieces that will be awarded “Best in Show” for 2024. This year’s esteemed judging team includes Collette Murphy Stefanko, Arts Administrator for the City of Encinitas, Susana Peredo Swap, founder of Vanguard Culture, and Christina Gustin, Financial Advisor and arts advocate from UBS. Join DMVA in painting the town pink and cheering on more than 2,000 walkers as the San Diego Susan G. Komen 3-Day® kicks off in Del Mar! This cheering station is an annual outpouring of support from the community that welcomes the walkers with pink balloons and ribbons. Cheerleaders from Torrey Pines High School, the Del Mar Lifeguards, local business owners and community residents line the streets to cheer the event participants on their journey as they head south to San Diego. Anyone interested in participating in this fun and inspirational morning is encouraged to dress in pink and come to Del Mar Village just south of 15th Street on Camino Del Mar (Highway 101) between 8 p.m. and 9 a.m. The Del Mar Village Association (DMVA) is rallying a crowd of well-wishers to cheer on more than 2,000 anticipated walkers that will pass through the heart of Del Mar Village on Friday, Nov. 17 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. as the San Diego Susan G. Komen 3-Day® kicks off. Since 2010, the cheering station has been an annual outpouring of support from the community that welcomes the walkers with pink decor, signs, upbeat music, big smiles and encouragement. Cheerleaders from Torrey Pines High School, the Del Mar Lifeguards, local business owners and community residents line the streets to cheer the event participants on their journey as they travel more than 60 miles south to San Diego to raise funds and awareness in the fight to end breast cancer.
