Surfing Madonna Oceans Project is pleased to present “Ocean/Earth/Air” a juried art & poetry regional show about our beautiful, fragile and fascinating world. 100 artists from across California will be selected to showcase their work on the environmental theme during the month of April 2023 with the reception on Sunday, April 23 of Earth Day weekend from 1 - 4 p.m. There will be art and poetry award and poetry readings at the reception and a concert from the locally renown Mission Hills high school band “The Preservationists” fresh from their concert in Japan. Surfing Madonna Oceans Project wants to spread our message of hope and appreciation for the ocean and support the arts. We believe that creating art and public appreciation of art increases cognitive abilities and eases anxiety and depression in these difficult times. Art can make a difference in the community, and that collective action can greatly impact the world. Surfing Madonna Oceans Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Encinitas, California and was officially formed in 2013 by Robert Nichols and Mark Patterson (artist of the Surfing Madonna mosaic). Farm Animal Refuge, a Campo-based animal sanctuary focused on animals from the agricultural industry, is hosting its first open house since the COVID-19 pandemic. Mingle with friendly fauna such as cows, pigs, goats, sheep and turkeys. Enjoy plant-based food and drinks for purchase and smash pumpkins for the animals - all in support of a compassionate cause. An exploration of the themes of home, love, collective memory, and strong women, Black Rootedness, A Poetry Reading builds community across continents through verse. Inspired by the anthology Black Rootedness: 54 Poets from Africa to America, edited by Karla Brundage of the West Oakland to West Africa project, this poetry reading features writers from California to Kenya. Thanksgiving break, After School on the Farm, and Seasonal Camps have been modified to cater to the current community needs; attendees may choose from Monday and Wednesday, Tuesday and Thursday, or full week (Monday-Thursday) options. Thanksgiving break camp will be held Monday Nov. 21st through Wednesday Nov. 23rd from 9:00 a.m-3:00 p.m. After School on the Farm is from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., with flexible drop-off and pick-up. Exhibiting artist and fine art paper sculptor, Roberto Benavidez, will speak about his art practice and why he chose the piñata as his primary medium. Using his works on view in Mingei's exhibition "Piñatas: The High Art of Celebration" as examples, Benavidez will walk you through how the piñata craft and its history influence his work. In this online class, we will cook 3 dishes- Chicken Biryani, Channa Masala and an accompanying Raita, which will all showcase how to use spices for flavor. You will do all the cooking in your kitchen as I guide you through every step. Through your laptop or other device, I will be able to be present in your kitchen cooking a delicious meal with you. The recipes will be for 4 people. I will send the recipes and ingredient preparation list in advance. You will also receive an equipment list so that the class is as smooth as possible and we can focus on the cooking. The prep list will guide you as to what ingredients will need to chopped etc before hand and clear instructions will be given about the size of cut etc. I will send photos of some ingredients and techniques in advance to help you through the preparation process. In order to conduct the class most efficiently, this will not be a cook along. Instead, I will be looking into your kitchens to guide you through the class.

Award-winning rockers Paramore have announced a monumental North American tour in 2023 supporting their next album "This Is Why". The 27-city journey kicks off May 23 in Charlotte and runs into August visiting most major markets including Atlanta, New York, Washington DC, Detroit, Toronto, Orlando, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle.
