The Elizabeth Hospice invites individuals interested in helping adults and children facing the challenges associated with a life-limiting illness and those grieving the death of a loved one to a free volunteer orientation session conducted via Zoom videoconferencing. Hospice volunteers are an important part of the care team at The Elizabeth Hospice and have an opportunity to make a real difference in someone’s life. Attendees will learn about a wide variety of virtual and in-person opportunities throughout San Diego County and Southwest Riverside County, including serving as a patient companion, providing caregiver respite, performing aromatherapy, sewing Cuddle Bears, officiating at veteran pinning ceremonies, and much more! Information will be provided on both the application and training process. An email address and a device with a camera interface are needed to participate in the training session or attendees can join by phone. The literature on gang formations in the United States center on men's experiences, leaving women's narratives on the margins. Today, women participate in gangs and adolescent subcultures similarly to that of their male counterparts. Society assumes that gang-involved women serve as auxiliaries to men and are subservient to a patriarchal barrio order. However, women represent social transformation and empowerment. An organization that supports former and active female gang members, Chola Vida, inspires homegirls to go to college and to disseminate knowledge by creating barrio frameworks that promote consciousness and symposiums to reach a broad audience. The panelists will discuss pressing topics that focus on Chola solidarity, education/scholarships, economic development/entrepreneurship, and social justice work. The Greater San Diego Music Coterie, directed by Dr. Angela Yeung, presents The Brilliance of Youth, a concert celebrates the brilliant young composers past and present. The concert features local talent, 14-year-old Bradley Carpiuc. Born in 2007, Bradley started playing the piano when he was almost 6 years old, and started composing not long after. A winner of numerous competitions in piano and composition locally and statewide, Bradley is presently a semi-finalist for the Music International Grand Prix competition in both categories of piano and composition. His current piano teacher is Dr. Anna Savvas and he studies composition with Mr. Justin Weiss. Registration to the performance is strongly encouraged for the limited indoor seating. Audience who prefers open air seating can bring your own chair and enjoy the concert from the courtyard. Admission is free with free-will donation at the performance.
