Students will discover the geologic activity happening all around them right now. The workshop will examine Southern California’s fault systems and look at recent earthquake activity using online tools from the US Geological Survey. Students will learn how to interpret an earthquake’s magnitude, and they will conduct an experiment to help them understand the mechanics of earthquake faults. This is an in-person workshop. Calling all budding young artists! EC Gallery is holding a Kids Art Contest Saturday, Sept 10 from 11:00am – 5:00pm. All kids from 5 – 12 are eligible to enter the contest. This is your opportunity to get in front of some amazing artists to hone your skills and see how you compare to the professionals. Participants will choose from three paintings they would like to emulate. The kid who most closely replicates the painting in their individual age group will receive a winner certificate as well as a wonderful Pop Dog art piece. There will also be an overall winner who will receive the grand prize of having their painting professionally framed and hung in the gallery for a full month. In addition, they will get a gift basket of art supplies worth $250. The artists' pieces to be emulated will be Gloria Lee, Michael Flohr, and Danny Ryan who will also be judging the contest. The festival – California Reggae Against Duchenne – will raise money for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a devastating muscle disease affecting children. Chinese Brush Painting Society Exhibit and Sale At Gallery 21, Spanish Village, Balboa Park Oct. 5 - 18, 2021 Gallery Hours: 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Daily Open House: Saturday, October 9 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Members of the Chinese Brush Painting Society (CBPS) of San Diego are extremely excited to exhibit their original artworks at this year's show. The paintings are created using practiced brush strokes and traditional tools of this ancient art form (rice paper, ink, colors, and animal hair brushes). The paintings depict both traditional and contemporary subjects. Various brush painting styles (detailed and spontaneous) will be on exhibit - highlighting the diversity and breadth of techniques used by modern brush artists. Our artists range from students to accomplished painters and calligraphers, many who have studied with masters in China.
