Please reserve your seat in advance as tickets will not be available at the door. **Masks are required for all audience members.** About the Program: "Girldream" (1996) by Chelsea Zeffiro is a series of danced vignettes rooted in sensorial explorations of wish, play, and dream. The dance is the culmination of a task-based and improvisatory process with the DISCO RIOT company dancers. This work is accompanied by a digital mixtape which she has assembled during our process and which serves as a dedication to the performers. Marty Dorado is excited to present a new dance work in honor of his 10 year anniversary of moving to San Diego. His piece highlights the stories of four characters who use their past experiences to inspire their future paths in life. A dance of survival, friendship, and transformation, Hourglass Alchemy by Zaquia Mahler Salinas explores the questions: what are our inherited traumas, inherited triumphs, and inherited magic? The duet, performed with Chelsea Zeffiro, is dedicated to Desiree Cuizon. Anna Brown Massey’s newest work brings joyful, riotous fun to this Scottish fever dream of a dance. Sculptor and "Genius Grant" recipient Tara Donovan's 2004 work, "Untitled (Toothpicks)" will be in town at Quint ONE in Logan Heights to baffle you in person. It's a feat of gravity and friction (and the repetitive properties of mass-produced consumer goods), Donovan has formed a massive cube that even in the humblest of photographs looks unreal. And the scale is kind of the point: how many toothpicks does it take before we no longer register it as a toothpick? Toothpicks will "shed" throughout the course of the installation and the composition of the cube will naturally shift. To protect it, the gallery will keep the doors closed. Live jazz is back at the Athenaeum! Join us for a series of three winter concerts in the Athenaeum library. This series features a number of leading artists of the jazz srings. Schedule • Tuesday, March 29 – Series opening with an appearance by brilliant jazz clarinetist Anat Cohen with Brazilian seven-string-guitar master Marcello Gonçalves. • Monday, April 4 – The series continues with the Eubanks-Evans Experience, featuring celebrated guitarist Kevin Eubanks and Grammy-nominated pianist Orrin Evans. • Wednesday, May 18 – The series concludes with the powerhouse collective band of George Garzone, Peter Erskine, Alan Pasqua, and Darek Oles (tenor sax/drums/piano/bass).
