  • Prepare your appetite because the College Area Business District is excited to announce the 3rd Annual Taste of College Area, happening on Sunday, September 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come experience the flavors of one of San Diego's most diverse and evolving culinary destinations with a self-guided tasting tour through the College Area and Rolando neighborhoods. Featuring more than 20 restaurants, coffee shops, pubs, and eateries, the event highlights the incredible variety of local dining experiences, from international cuisine to artisan coffee and neighborhood favorites. To help you make the most of your tasting adventure, complimentary Old Town Trolley rides will run throughout the event route, making it easy to explore participating restaurants at your own pace. The route stretches along El Cajon Boulevard from 55th Street to 73rd Street, showcasing the vibrant businesses that make the College Area a unique dining destination. This year's lineup includes returning favorites such as Tokyo Sushi Loha, Penelope's Mexican Food, Charoen Krung Thai Cuisine, and Scrimshaw Coffee, along with exciting first-time participants including Pokedon, BarLando, and Love Letters Pizza. Early Bird tickets are on sale now for just $35, and groups of 10 or more automatically receive a 15% discount through July 31. The heart of the Athenaeum’s School of the Arts is our faculty, whose knowledge and expertise embrace all aspects of fine art. In this exhibition of our teaching artists’ current work, viewers will enjoy the broad range of mediums and techniques that characterize our faculty’s versatility, from painting to book arts, printmaking, ceramics, illustration, painting, and beyond. Their dedication to lifelong learning and exploration continues to inspire students who take classes in both our Logan Heights and La Jolla studios. The Faculty & Staff Exhibition reflects the Athenaeum’s ongoing commitment to fine arts education and its role as a vibrant cultural hub in San Diego’s art community. In addition to faculty, members of the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library staff who are artists are also presenting their work, reflecting the shared creativity and passion for the arts that infuse every part of our organization. The exhibition can be viewed in the Catherine and Robert Palmer Gallery at the Athenaeum Art Center (1955 Julian Avenue, San Diego, CA 92113) during open gallery hours, Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and every second Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m., during the Barrio Art Crawl, and by appointment.
