Tuesday marked the 25th anniversary of “Operation Gatekeeper,” which increased border security in San Diego county. While border arrests dropped in San Diego afterward, thousands have since died in nearby deserts trying to evade the Border Patrol. Also, this week, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a controversial law that promises to allow collegiate athletes to sign endorsement deals and profit from their likeness.
