What: Hand-Tied Flower Arranging + Floral Sourdough Scoring Workshop When: Saturday, May 2, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Where: Native Poppy, Solana Beach, 142 S. Cedros Ave, Solana Beach, CA 92075 Limited Spots Available! Flowers and flour take center stage in this workshop, where hand-tied floral design meets the art of floral sourdough scoring. Floral forms and patterns become the inspiration for scoring designs, translating botanical beauty into edible art. This collaborative workshop begins with hand-tied flower arranging, where you’ll learn how to create a beautifully wrapped floral bundle using fresh seasonal blooms. With guidance from one of Native Poppy’s professional florists, you’ll explore balance, color pairing, and foundational techniques. The workshop continues with floral sourdough scoring led by Katrina of The Sourdough Mama. Using a prepared sourdough loaf, you’ll translate floral forms and patterns into a scored design before taking your loaf home to bake and enjoy—no baking experience is required. Alex G, stage alias of Alex Giannascoli, is a prolific singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who built his reputation combining strong melodic sensibilities with a ragged, impulsive-sounding performance style. Regarded as one of the most influential artists of his generation, the release of Alex G’s ninth studio album in 2022, "God Save the Animals," was met with critical acclaim across the board, hailed as “a tour de force” (Rolling Stone) and “his most thrilling and playful record yet” (Vanity Fair). Most recently, Alex composed the original score for the A24 film "I Saw The TV Glow," continuing his work with director Jane Schoenbrun, who he previously collaborated with on the 2021 film "We’re All Going to the World’s Fair." Complimentary Entry | No Reservations Required Brazilian Jazz Night brings together a group of standout Southern California musicians for an evening celebrating the rhythm, warmth, and beauty of Brazil’s musical tradition. At the center is vocalist Lexi Pulido, whose expressive voice and natural feel for the music bring elegance and soul to classic bossa nova and samba repertoire. Leading the ensemble on drums, Matthew Elton Smith brings a deep sense of groove and musical direction to the group, blending jazz sensibility with the subtle pulse and flow of Brazilian rhythms. His playing helps guide the ensemble while leaving space for the kind of spontaneous interaction that makes live jazz exciting. The band also features vibraphonist Ian Harland, whose shimmering sound and melodic improvisations add a unique color to the group. Guitarist Aaron Lind provides the harmonic foundation with the smooth, rhythmic feel that is central to Brazilian music, while bassist Harley Magsino anchors everything with warm tone, lyrical lines, and an effortless pocket.
